When Brad Benson (Robert Hays) walked into the Liberty Coffee Shop, pert young waitress Angie Falco (Donna Pescow of Saturday Night Fever fame) thought he was poor and began sneaking him some pastries. It turned out that he was a pediatrician from the medical building across the street and a member of one of Philadelphia’s richest families.

In true Cinderella fashion, Angie and Brad fell in love and got married, despite the objections of Brad’s overbearing big sister, Joyce (Sharon Spelman), and stuffy father, Randall (John Randolph), and much to the surprise of Angie’s mother, the down-to-earth Theresa (Doris Roberts).

Theresa had raised Angie and her younger sister Marie (Debralee Scott) by running a newsstand after their father had walked out 19 years earlier (He “went to get the paper” but never returned) and Theresa still keeps a place set for him at the family table for him.

The Benson’s had a different set of problems, not least of which was the fact that snobbish Joyce was three times divorced and undergoing therapy with a psychiatrist who hated her.

Angie and Brad moved into Brad’s mansion, but the surroundings were so ostentatious and grand that they later bought a smaller house, with Brad setting up his practice on the first floor. Angie then bought the Liberty Coffee Shop to keep herself busy and later traded it for a beauty shop (Rose’s House of Beauty) where Gianni (Tim Thomerson) was the pleasure-seeking hairstylist.

Other regular characters included Brad’s niece Hillary (Tammy Lauren) and Angie’s big-hearted best friend, Didi (Diane Robin), her other pals Mary Katherine (Nancy Lane), Mary Mary (Valri Bromfield) and Mary Grace (Susan Duvall) and Phipps the butler (Emory Bass).

Bonus includes the 7th Family Feud Allstars Special featuring the cast of Angie, The Ropers and The Waltons playing the game for their charities.
