MOTHER KNOWS BEST (ABC 4/13/97)

Celeste Cooper (Joanna Kerns), a wealthy socialite, urged her single daughter Laurel (Christine Elise) to get married.  Through a personal ad Laurel meets and falls in love with Ted (Grant Show), a young man with a blue-collar background. Celeste doesn't think that she made a good choice and opposes her daughter's marriage. The couple proceeds with their wedding, despite Celeste's threats to cut off her daughter completely. They attempt to move on with their lives even when Celeste begins a campaign to discredit her son-in-law. Things turn sinister when Celeste schemes to hire a hit man to get rid of Ted once and for all. Based on the true life story of Lee Goldsmith. Also starring Jessica Walters.
