Two young homesteaders, David and Molly Beaton (Roger Kern, Linda Purl) are heartbroken at the death of their young son. The trials and illnesses that hit the Dakota wilderness in 1874 only add a challenge to the grieving couple.

Despite many setbacks, the Beatons find new meaning in the words courage and determination when they tried to help a friend whose claim is threatened by a railroad company.

With the help and kindness of their neighbors and dear friends, Molly and David learn that it is sharing that brings contentment--the sharing of all things--good times and bad, joy and sorrow.
