After learning that her sister Susan (Jess Walton) is contemplating divorce, Kate (Elizabeth Montgomery) decides to travel to the woman's remote country home and spend some time with her. When Kate arrives, however, Susan is nowhere in sight, because someone has murdered her and stuffed her body inside a trunk in the basement.

As a fierce storm rages outside, Kate’s night of terror begins as she tries to figure out where her sister could have gone. It places her own life in jeopardy as the killer is still on the premises!

Elizabeth Montgomery gives a brilliant dramatic performance in her first post-Bewitched vehicle. Another great performance well worth mentioning is that of Eileen Heckart who plays the eerie and suspicious housekeeper. The cast also includes Sue Ane Langdon (Frankie and Johnny) and George MaHaris (Route 66).

This suspenseful tale of a dark and stormy night is expertly orchestrated by veteran television director Herschel Daugherty (Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Star Trek: The Original Series) and written by Merwin Gerard. The teleplay is based on a short story by McKnight Malmar. Malmar's tale was first brought to television in 1962 as an episode of Boris Karloff's Thiller anthology series. Gerard (creator of the One Step Beyond show) adds several clever ingredients that heighten the tension and suspense.
