The nurturing of children during their formative first three years is the subject of this special that combines documentary segments with lighter, staged sequences. Host Tom Hanks travels to Hampton, VA., for three stories about parents who receive child-rearing guidance from an active community-support system. Back in L.A., variations on the theme are played out in sketches that include Robin Williams, Rob Reiner, Charlton Heston, Michael J. Fox, Tracy Pollan, Roseanne, Billy Crystal, Alex Trebek, Jon Lovitz, Rosie O'Donnell, Martin Short, Carl Reiner and as the 2037-year-old man, Mel Brooks. The program, directed by Rob Reiner, also features remarks on child development by President and Mrs. Clinton. Special guests include: Shaquille O'Neal, General Colin Powell and Oprah Winfrey.
