Set sail for laughter and adventure with Gilligan's Island - the timeless TV classic which followed the hilarious misadventures of seven stranded castaways on an uncharted island about 200 miles southeast of Hawaii.
It started out as a three-hour sightseeing tour aboard the S.S. Minnow captained by the the wise and steadfast Skipper (Alan Hale Jr.) and his bumbling first mate Gilligan (Bob Denver). Their passengers included a sophisticated millionaire, Thurston Howell III (Jim Backus) and his glamorous wife Lovey (Natalie Schafer), the stunning movie star Ginger Grant (Tina Louise), the brainy Professor (Russell Johnson), and the down-to-earth farm girl Mary Ann (Dawn Wells).
The island may have been deserted it was never a dull time for the castaways. Each week they found themselves in the most unusual situations from surviving native headhunters, wild animals, even a robot or the countless visitors to the island (that always seemed to easily come and go), one thing was consistent - somehow lovable Gilligan always managed to ruin their chances of being rescued.
Notable guest stars included Hans Conreid, Vito Scotti, Larry Storch, Kurt Russell, Denny Miller, Harold J. Stone, Nehemiah Persoff, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Richard Kiel, Phil Silvers, John McGiver, Don Rickles, Strother Martin, Rory Calhoun, Sterling Holloway and Stanley Adams.
Although there were only 98 produced episodes, the show has retained its freshness and originality for sixty years despite contemptuous reviews by various critics, who claimed the series would quickly be cancelled. Gilligan's Island has remained one of the most successful syndicated comedy series of all time. It seems it will never be forgotten, which is as it should be.
