CITY OF ANGELS - THE COMPLETE SERIES (NBC 1976) RARE!!! HARD TO FIND!!! Wayne Rogers, Philip Sterling, Clifton James, Elaine Joyce
Inspired by the 1974 film Chinatown, City of Angels adopted the same cynical view of Depression-era Los Angeles, a place where Hollywood and crime competed for attention. This series also found its roots in Roy Huggins’ hard-boiled 1946 detective novel, The Double Take. It follows the exploits of Jake Axminster (Wayne Rogers), an often broke but always freewheeling private investigator, who is not above stretching the law and his wits to get the information he wants.
Possibly as a reflection of his own standards, Jake trusts nobody completely, not even his attorney, Michael Brimm (Philip Sterling). Brimm is called upon frequently to defend Axminster from charges (mostly trumped-up) leveled against him by Lieutenant Murray Quint (Clifton James), a fat, cigar-chomping, and thoroughly crooked member of the Los Angeles Police Department. Jake's office is run by a beautiful but daffy secretary, Marsha Finch (Elaine Joyce), who also runs a switchboard that takes messages for call girls.
Notable guest stars include: Meredith Baxter Birney, Darleen Carr, Broderick Crawford, Steve Kanaly, Martin Kove, Diane Ladd, Laurence Luckinbill, Dorothy Malone, Lloyd Nolan, Marcia Strassman, Ed Winter, Dana Wynter.
