Since its debut in 1975, the popular detective series Starsky & Hutch was a breakout hit. It was produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, the men behind another 70s hit crime drama Charlie’s Angels and it starred Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul.

The show’s outrageous style and tongue-in-cheek humor, played alongside more serious story lines, made it one of the most popular and innovative 70s cop shows ever. With colorful bad guys, explosive gunplay, big laughs and plenty of burning rubber, this was one action-packed television classic!

David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson (David Soul) were two of the coolest detectives with the Bay City Police Department. Starsky was the streetwise member of the team, and Hutch was the better educated, softly spoken one. Together they tackled cases in the roughest neighborhoods in town, full of pimps, muggers, dope pushers, and big-time hoods.

Although they often worked undercover, they were usually highly visible, racing around the city, with tires squealing, in Starsky’s bright red 1974 Ford Gran Torino with a white stripe across the roof and down the sides, tapering to a point at the front.

Their crime-fighting efforts were aided by their quick-tempered, long-suffering but understanding boss Captain Harold Dobey (Bernie Hamilton) and Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas) their flamboyant informant.

The list of amazing guest stars who appeared over the course of the four seasons make this a great addition to anyone’s DVD collection. Suzanne Somers, Kristy McNichols, John Ritter, Lynda Carter, Norman Fell, Carl Weathers, Jeff Goldblum, Joan Collins, Dee Wallace, Danny DeVito, Melanie Griffith, Kim Cattrall, Philip Michael Thomas to name only a few. Be sure to checkout episode 14 “Shootout” for an uncredited appearance of Farrah Fawcett as the party guest.
