This single Gunsmoke episode "P.S. Murry Christmas" is a heartwarming holiday treat from the iconic Western series.

Set in the frontier town of Dodge City, the story unfolds during Christmas, when an orphanage handyman Titus Spangler (Jack Elam) is fired by the overly stern headmistress, Emma Grundy (Jeanette Nolan) after he questions her refusal to allow the children to celebrate Christmas.

As he prepares to leave, the seven orphans make the decision to go with him and all wind up in Dodge City at Christmas time.

When Miss Grundy comes to town to have Titus arrested and reclaim the children Miss Kitty devises a plan to save Titus and the kids by alloing the judge to see another side of the prim and proper woman. However, in doing so, Kitty exposes the real truth as to why she doesn’t allow the children to celebrate Christmas.

Featuring child actors Jodie Foster, Erin Moran, Willie Aames, Patti Cohoon, Todd Lookinland this episode captures the spirit of Christmas on the rugged frontier, blending themes of compassion, community, and redemption.

It's a reminder that even the most reclusive hearts can be warmed by kindness and the power of human connection.
