Celebrating the timeless classic series' 60th anniversary!

Developed by Dick Sutcliffe with Gumby creators Art Clokey and Ruth Clokey Goodell Davey and Goliath was a claymotion series of 15-minute episodes spreading simple religious messages and morals to young television viewers, while not confusing them with complicated concepts.

Each show featured the adventures of Davey Hansen and his "talking" dog Goliath (although only Davey and the viewer can hear him speak) as they learn the love of God through everyday occurrences.  Although the show was inspired by Christian morals, it did not preach Lutheran theology, but focused on general lessons such as racial tolerance and environmentalism. The storylines were basic, Davey got into trouble, Goliath was his conscience and his parents saved the day.

The show was progressive for its time in that it represented people of different ethnic backgrounds, including Davey's friends Nathaniel (in the 1960s episodes) and Jonathan (in the 1970s episodes) along with his teacher, were some of the first African-American characters to appear as friends of a television show's white lead character.

The early voices included Hal Smith (“The Andy Griffith Show”) who did a number of voices including Davey's father, Dick Beals (who was Davey's voice), Paul Frees and Ginny Tyler (who did the voice of Sally's and Davey's mother). These three did many other voices as well. By 1963, Nancy Wible was now providing voices for female characters such as Davey's mother.  Norma MacMillan could also be heard as the voice of numerous child and female characters.

This 12-DVD set includes the complete 73 episodes, including the 5th season episode “The Family of God,” missing from the retail collection. Also includes the seven Davey and Goliath specials!

What a great gift for young children or the nostalgic child within yourself!
